My name is Phước Giác Tuệ (Bodhi Ñāṇī). I have been ordained as a nun and am living the monastic life both in Myanmar and at Phuoc Son Monastery.
My spiritual journey has led me through various meditation traditions. I spent over five years practicing the Goenka method, underwent intensive training in the Pa-Auk tradition, and I am currently exploring the Mogok method while deepening my study of Abhidhamma and the Buddha’s original teachings.
My philosophy is simple: “Use this precious life to study and practice the Dhamma correctly, and truly live the Dhamma in daily life.”
I join VICASA not as a language teacher, but as a companion walking together with our Dhamma family. I hope to help create a class atmosphere that is open-minded, harmonious, and supportive. Here, we embrace mistakes as part of the path, because learning and teaching are also Dhamma practices of patience and detachment!

Dear spiritual friends,

“I’m afraid of speaking because I’ll make mistakes…”
“Buddhist English must be so difficult…”
If you feel this way, then we are truly very similar.
More than 10 years ago, I also studied English at school just to get by. After graduation, I had no confidence at all to speak with foreigners. Many times I wanted to give up and stop learning this language, thinking I had no talent for it. But I still tried not to give up, studying on my own whenever I had the chance.
And then, my encounter with the Dhamma changed everything.
When I went to Thailand for a ten-day meditation retreat conducted in English, I deeply longed to understand the teachers’ instructions. That longing became the driving force that kept me committed to learning English. Eventually, English became the bridge that led me to my root teacher—Venerable Sayadaw Ottamathara. Because of English, I was able to listen to the Dhamma directly from him, absorbing the energy and meaning in every teaching. I also had the opportunity to examine different versions of the scriptures, helping me understand the Dhamma in a richer, more multidimensional way.
Looking back now, I feel immense gratitude toward the friends and teachers who supported me on this journey. English is no longer something I fear—it has become a precious vehicle on the spiritual path, connecting me with noble friends from around the world.
The Basic Buddhist English Communication class was born from this very aspiration:
– No entry requirements—anyone can join.
– No fear of mistakes; mistakes are simply chances to learn, just like in our Dhamma practice.
– A simple goal: to help monks, nuns, and lay Buddhists communicate at a basic level and understand foundational Buddhist terms.
