As a 10-year Buddhist nun dedicated to the path of spiritual enlightenment and lifelong learning, Vijjā’s journey has been shaped by a deep-rooted passion for education and personal growth. Embracing the teachings of Buddha and the principles of compassion, wisdom, and mindfulness, she has found solace and purpose in her pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment.
Through years of contemplation, meditation, and study, she has delved into the profound depths of Buddhist philosophy, seeking to gradually understand the interconnectedness of all beings and the nature of existence. Her role as a nun has been one of humility and service, as she strives to embody the teachings of compassion and empathy in her interactions with others.
Education, to her, is more than just the acquisition of knowledge. It is a transformative journey of self-discovery and enlightenment as knowledge is a powerful tool for liberation, allowing us to understand the world and ourselves better. Thus, she believes that learning is a lifelong pursuit that enriches the mind, nurtures the soul, and empowers individuals to make meaningful contributions to the world.
Vijjā’s burning passion for education stems from a desire to uplift and empower others through knowledge and wisdom. As a Buddhist nun, she views education as a powerful tool for fostering understanding, empathy, and harmony in a world often fraught with conflict and division. Whether through teaching, writing, or engaging in dialogue with others, she is committed to sharing the transformative power of education with all who seek enlightenment and growth.
In this way, her identity as a Buddhist nun and educator intertwine, guiding her on a path of service, compassion, and continuous learning. It is her fervent hope that through her dedication to education and spiritual practice, she may inspire others to embark on their own journeys of discovery and self-realization. Therefore, she has established VICASA community, including instructors and collaborators, to share her knowledge and experience.
Working with learners in different capacities, learning and assisting others in acquiring knowledge are her passion. She is also fortunate to be able to work towards Master and Doctor of Education and Buddhist Studies while living in Vietnam and be volunteer English instructors for learners at all ages. This experience has reaffirmed her personal commitment to learning and promoting, as an educator and beyond.
Adapting to teaching in the 21st century means that not only must we be committed to lifelong learning for ourselves, but in imparting those skills to our students. We cannot know what specific jobs or needs our students will encounter in the future. We can however support our students in embracing this uncertainty and value learning new skills. Implementing an inquiry-based approach enables us to design a learning environment that motivates students to progress approaches to learning that will set them up for future success.
May peace, wisdom, and boundless compassion guide her steps as she walks the path of education and enlightenment, seeking to make a positive impact on the world and all sentient beings.
